I've come across several instances in the past couple weeks in which my conviction to not watch rated R movies has been tested. Ever since I heard the theme from "Schindler's List" I've wanted to see it. I also got to see an edited version of "Glory" in School, which I loved, but now I can't watch it again. But those are old news. For a lab assignment in my Psychology class, one of the options was to watch the movie "Kinsey", which seemed more interesting than the other options. Alas, Kinsey is studying sexuality so, of course, it's not rated G. Next up, "The Joy Luck Club." I was Hulu-surfing and came across this; read the book in high school, very interesting and disturbing at the time, but I would like to revisit it. Also on Hulu: "Glory" and a movie called "When a Man Loves a Woman" which looks like a beautiful study of relationships.
So this is the crisis. I haven't broken so far, but if I don't find a way to ward off my rationalizations, such as I can skip bad parts and I judge movies differently than the MPAA rating system, I'm afraid I will break. I'll also need a renewed motivational reason to ward off rationalizations, I think.
